Lisbon Addictions 2017, the second European Conference on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies, was held from 24th – 26th October at the Lisbon Congress Center. Over 1,000 participants from around the world came together to learn about and explore challenges relating to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, the internet and other addictive behaviours. The conference was jointly organised by the Portuguese General Directorate for Intervention on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (SICAD), the journal Addiction, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE).
The conference provided ISSUP with the opportunity to engage with leading policy experts, researchers and practitioners across countries and fields. We’re excited that more than 150 new members visited our booth and joined ISSUP at Lisbon Addictions. ISSUP was able to highlight the importance of the Knowledge Share section of our website in the event's poster sessions.
ISSUP’s Acting Executive Director, Joanna Travis-Roberts presented about the role and importance of ISSUP as part of a session on global training and education for addiction professionals. The session was opened by Charlotte Sisson from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement. ISSUP’s chair, Melody Heaps, and ISSUP’s board member, Zili Sloboda presented on the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) and the Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC), respectively.
We'd like to thank everyone at Lisbon Addictions for welcoming us and we look forward to the next conference!
