Communications & Marketing Officer

The International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) together with the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) are looking to recruit a Communications & Marketing Officer who will be the key part of their team for communicating content to benefit ISSUP’s and ICUDDR’s members and their broader target audience. The Communications & Marketing Officer is essential for the creation and digital dissemination of ISSUP and ICUDDR content and the building and maintenance of virtual networks. Working closely with the Deputy Director and all other members of the team the Communications & Marketing Officer encourages the engagement of ISSUP and ICUDDR members and other important stakeholders.

The International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation that supports the professional development of a globally connected substance use prevention, treatment and recovery workforce. ISSUP provides networking opportunities, offers a gateway to training and serves as an online access point (www.issup.net) for information from the field of drug demand reduction. ISSUP’s approach is informed by evidence-based, high-quality and ethical practice.

The International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates networking among universities to promotehigh-quality education and training in the field of addiction prevention and treatment (https://www.icuddr.com). It pursues related applied addictions research, outreach and advocacy and supports the formation of academic programmes in addiction studies at a time when demand is at an all-time high.

Main areas of work:

Marketing:

  • Manage ISSUP’s and ICUDDR’s general email communications and queries
  • Create and oversee the implementation of the Marketing strategy
  • Manage the creation and circulation of the ISSUP/ICUDDR newsletters
  • Manage the production of ISSUP and ICUDDR marketing materials
  • Manage the production of ISSUP/ICUDDR news stories
  • Manage ISSUP’s and ICUDDR’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter & Linkedin) and increase members’ engagement via strong social media presence
  • Data analysis: Monitor and assess communications data. Pull out monthly reporting figures and create a monthly website trafficking and newsletter readership report
  • Attend meetings/conferences as agreed with the Chief Executive and Deputy Director to present and promote ISSUP and ICUDDR
  • Ensure ISSUP’s and ICUDDR’s brand is appropriately presented across all external and internal communications

Website:

  • Manage and regularly update ISSUP and ICUDDR website content: Write, edit, coordinate and publish engaging and high-quality content for our members and other important stakeholders
  • Build relationships with content contributors to encourage their participation
  • Manage the development of Network topics and the moderation of agreed online Networks - https://www.issup.net/networks
  • Keep ISSUP’s Job Board up-to-date (lists current paid and voluntary vacancies in the field) - https://www.issup.net/training/job-board
  • Join website meetings to review progress and contribute to development

ISSUP/ICUDDR Event:

  • Create and manage ISSUP/ICUDDR event marketing materials and documents (e.g. flyers, presentations, programme booklet, certificates, etc.)
  • Create and implement event social media strategy
  • Create ISSUP/ICUDDR event webpages and create social media event pages
  • Monitor the ISSUP/ICUDDR ‘tables’ to promote the organisation during the event

ISSUP National Chapters:

  • Promote the National Chapters via ISSUP communications

ISSUP Membership:

  • Review ISSUP membership applications and manage email communications with members

Other areas of work:

  • As a small team, we work closely together and appreciate contributions to other aspects of our work plan
  • Travel will be necessary, both within and outside the UK

Skills and Qualities:

Working as part of a small team, you will be an outstanding communicator with a proven ability to translate complex information into engaging content. Some knowledge of drug demand reduction or related healthcare fields would also be useful to this role.

Essential:

  • 2-3 years’ experience of working in communications ideally in the NGO/charity sector
  • Excellent producer of content, understanding ISSUP’s and ICUDDR’s key messages and stakeholders and able to produce content for website, newsletter, networks, social media, power points, etc.
  • Excellent writing skills, including being able to write for different channels and audiences
  • Experience of using website content management systems and familiarity with email marketing campaigns
  • Experience of using communications data including Google Analytics and social media analytics tools to inform reporting
  • Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
  • Design skills for promotional materials such as flyers, presentations, social media cards, etc.
  • Able to organise ISSUP’s members and other stakeholders for input to social media and news content
  • English speaking (native or CEFR C2)
  • Show and use initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise your own work
  • Creative
  • Team-player: Able to communicate and integrate within a small team
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated

Full time, UK based working from home

Salary range: £25,000 - £32,000 dependent upon experience

Start date: January, 2020 or sooner
