We are delighted to share highlights from the recent Society for Prevention Research (SPR) Conference, held from 30th May to 2nd June in Washington, D.C. The annual meeting brought together experts and professionals from around the globe to delve into the critical topic of 'The Role of Prevention in Achieving Social Justice and Health Equity for All.' The conference served as a platform to explore innovative approaches and strategies aimed at creating a more equitable and healthier society through prevention efforts.
During the four-day event, we had the privilege of actively participating and contributing to the discussions. Notably, we are proud to announce that ISSUP’s Deputy Director, Livia Edegger, was elected as the Chair of the SPR International Committee. The mission of the SPR International Committee is to support and expand SPR’s commitment to international prevention research in order to prevent health and behaviour problems. The Committee consists of several workgroups that focus on different areas relevant to the global dissemination and promotion of prevention science.
Additionally, we were thrilled to have our Scientific Support Coordinator, Rasha Abi Hana, present ISSUP's prevention activities at the International Networking Forum. Rasha's presentation shed light on the significant strides ISSUP has made in advancing evidence-based prevention practices, both through our global network and the dedicated work of our National Chapters.
The conference provided a unique opportunity to share our collective efforts in the field of substance use prevention. The SPR conference was a remarkable platform that facilitated meaningful discussions and collaborations focused on prevention, social justice, and health equity. The active involvement of ISSUP members showcased our commitment to driving positive change and advancing prevention strategies.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the SPR conference organisers for providing such an enriching experience. Together, we will continue our efforts to promote evidence-based prevention approaches, address social disparities, and work towards a healthier and more equitable world.
