Weaker Bones Linked to Cannabis Use

Research conducted at the University of Edinburgh has found a link between cannabis use and bone mass density. More specifically, the findings, recently published in the American Journal of Medicine, report that frequent cannabis users are more likely to have thinner bones as a result of using marijuana and, therefore, are more prone to breaks and fractures. Other conclusions include a suggestion of around a 5% lower bone density for cannabis users compared to cigarette smokers amongst those tested. This study is one of the first to investigate the relationship between the thinning of bones and cannabis use. The researchers note that more work is needed in this area to better understand the way in which drug use can affect bone health.
