Identifying and Treating Patients Who Use Tobacco

'Million Hearts' is an initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that aims to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by promoting evidence-based intervention through communities, health systems, non-profit organizations, federal agencies, and private-sector partners.

One of the key contributors to stroke and heart attack endemic is the high rates of smoking amongst U.S. adults.

A new 'Million Hearts' publication – ‘Identifying and Treating Patients Who Use Tobacco’ – is an action plan that targets clinicians, aiming to provide suggestions of effective strategies to tackle the ongoing issue of tobacco dependence through offering advice on the design of tobacco cessation delivery systems and through providing examples of evidence-based brief interventions for patients who use tobacco.
