Are you a professional working in drug demand reduction? Would you like to gain experience in the field or advance through continuing education?
Colleagues working in the drug demand reduction field are invited to apply for the Colombo Plan Fellowship. Please note that this year the Fellowship Program is only open to candidates from Central Asia, including Afghan colleagues living outside of Afghanistan.
The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), with funding from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), is supporting a Fellowship Program with the goal of expanding professionals in the field of drug demand reduction globally.
Colombo Plan has a history of supporting the drug demand reduction field in creating over 116 courses in 24 languages with over 80 countries benefitting.
This program will provide prevention, treatment and/or recovery support practitioners with added experiences to advance their skills through matched fellowships. Recipients of the program will receive stipends for living expenses and coordinated internships at academic institutions; apprenticeships at treatment centres or prevention programs; online and in-person continuing education courses, and a range of other possibilities to allow further contribution to the field.
Selection criteria

At least 2 years experience working in the field of drug demand reduction to include, but not limited to, drug prevention, treatment, recovery, quality assurance, research, or related fields of medicine, education, social work, and communication/media.

Completion of Universal Treatment Curriculum and/or Universal Prevention Curriculum is preferred but not required.

Credentialed GCCC ICAP professionals are encouraged but this is not an essential requirement.

Confirmation of willingness to be paired with an institution, treatment facility, prevention program to gain practical experience in the country they are living in.

A statement indicating your future career goals and how you will apply the knowledge and skills gained in this program to the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.

Participants from Central Asia will be prioritised for the 2022 intake cycle. The program will expand in future years to participants from Colombo Plan member states.
