Mind, body and soul: the Spinney Hill approach to addiction
The Spinney Hill Project is a community-based, culturally sensitive initiative, meeting the needs of people struggling with dependency on alcohol and other drugs. Based in the heart of Leicester, one the UK’s most ethnically diverse cities, they are connecting with people from a range of religious, cultural and language backgrounds, and helping them on the road to recovery.
The Spinney Hill approach is based on the belief that human beings are made up of three parts – mind, body, and soul – and they have developed a unique pathway that aims to nurture all three of these. That’s why you’ll find counselling rooms, a gym, and a prayer space at their premises.
They support young people and adults, women and men, and concerned family and friends. And they work closely with specialist treatment agencies, drawing on strong community partnerships to help people into treatment.

The Faith, Families and Recovery forum is a joint forum set up by Adfam, a charity for families affected by the drinking or drug use of a loved one, and Alcohol Change Wales, a charity working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol. The forum looks at the role of faith in people’s recovery from addiction issues, including the role of faith within families. This forum has grown out of our recognition that when faith is an important part of someone’s life, the support they receive needs to recognise and relate to that.
