Coronavirus and smoking

Coronavirus e o Tabagismo

Dr. Joo Paulo Lotufo, paediatrician, member of the Smoking Commission of the Brazilian Medical Association, director of ISSUP Brazil and partner of Freemind, this video provides facts and advice on the relationship between coronavirus and smoking.

A study published in late February 2020 by the Chinese Medical Journal evaluated 78 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, of whom 14.1% evolved with worsening of their condition and 85.9% stabilized or improved.

With this follow-up, they achieved the following complication factors of pneumonia:

- The age of over 60 increases the risk of the case worsening by 8.54 times.;

- High body temperature at admission increases the risk of worsening by 8.9 times;

- Respiratory failure is responsible for an 8.7-fold increase in the risk of progression;

- The chances of aggravation increase with the fall of albumin (7.4 times) and with the rise of the C-reactive protein (10.5 times).

The fact that SMOKING is responsible for 14.2 times the chance of worsening cases was highlighted.

This way, if you are concerned about this disease, take all the recommended precautions such as using alcohol gel, washing hands and using masks, but still smoking is TIME to STOP!

Watch the video and think: smoking increases the risk of having a bad case by 14.2 times. STOP SMOKING WHILE THERE'S TIME!
