19th International Congress on Addictions

19th International Congress on Addictions

The 19th International CIJ Congress welcomed 2,500 participants and focused on "Dual Disorders and Comorbidity Associated with Substance Use". It was held in conjunction with the World Association of Dual Disorders (WADD) and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP).

The event reviewed the most recent research in the field, in order to link researchers, groups and sectors from different countries towards a better understanding of what dual pathology means and its implications, in order to promote the well-being of the population and contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of patients, their families and their environment in general.

During the opening ceremony of the Congress, Kena Morena, President and Founder of CIJ, explained how as part of CIJ more than 1,300 addiction experts collaborate, supported by almost ten thousand volunteers. In 2016 they reached 9.9 million people through prevention initiatives and treated 166,000 patients and their families in curative care.

ISSUP participated in the event at both the opening and closing ceremonies. ISSUP also held a session on building an international workforce and recommended a series of international speakers.

ISSUP would like to thank CIJ for the opportunity to build such a successful event together.
