About the role:

You will be assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Tina trial, a clinical trial focusing on a new medication for methamphetamine 'ice' use. The main responsibilities include recruiting and interviewing potential participants, screening them for suitability, enrolling eligible participants, and collecting data as per the trial protocol. The position also involves data entry and management, handling biological samples, assisting with recruitment strategies, attending project meetings, and undertaking research tasks such as report preparation. This is a multi-site trial, requiring collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians. The role will be primarily based at IMPACT, Geelong, with field travel required for participant assessments and collaboration with other services.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse will be recruiting a Branch Chief for the Communications Branch (CB) in the Office of Science Policy and Communications (OSPC).  OSPC’s mission is to lead NIDA’s strategic efforts to inform public health policy and practice by ensuring the institute is the trusted source for scientific information on drug use and addiction.

The fulfillment of NIDA’s and OSPC’s missions depends on effective interaction with a variety of national and international audiences about the Institute’s goals, policies, programs, accomplishments, and other relevant information. These audiences include scientific researchers, physicians and other healthcare providers, policy makers, the public, the media, people with lived and living experience of drug use, and voluntary and professional organizations. The Communications Branch, which is responsible for facilitating these interactions: (1) conducts NIDA's media outreach activities; (2) responds to information inquiries from the public; (3) leads NIDA’s public information activities and public education campaigns; (4) coordinates content development and review of NIDA messaging disseminated to the public; (5) assesses needs and designs communications materials for specific populations; (6) collaborates with other Federal agencies to promote dissemination and application of NIDA research; (7) leads the development, design and management of the Institute’s digital dissemination and outreach; and (8) oversees the technical management, monitoring, maintenance, and coordination of NIDA’s web, social media, and audiovisual-based operations.

Scotland is in the midst of a public health emergency regarding drug related deaths. Tackling this will require multiple interventions across all parts of our society. We will support our Consultants in Addictions Psychiatry to help lead this national response. Our Consultants are employed by the NHS, but as the clinical experts in their field they will guide and inform which services are commissioned from the third sector. As a dynamic, flexible organisation we are keen to pilot innovative ways to tackle the scourge of drug related deaths. We will support our Consultants to contribute to the emerging national strategies for tackling drug related deaths and to develop links with Higher Education Institutions to build the evidence base.  Locally we have strong links with the University of Stirling where the public health research in this area is making a significant contribution to the development of national strategy.  The service will support SPA time for Consultants to lead on projects aligned with addressing this public health crisis, such as the expansion of injectable buprenorphine and new ways of working to safely manage benzodiazepine use / dependency in conjunction with delivery and implementation of the MAT (Medicated Assisted Treatment) standards.

The Substance Use Service has a large work component in relation to alcohol use disorders. There is an alcohol dedicated team within SUS South which the successful candidate would work closely with .Part of the task will be to sign off on patients requiring inpatient detoxification from alcohol in the local Mental Health Unit using the one dedicated bed. There is also a role in supporting home detoxification from alcohol when this can be safely done. Alcohol patients will be seen by the Consultant in relation to the use of protective medications and for assessment and treatment of psychiatric comorbidity .The successful candidate would also contribute to the planning of an expansion in our alcohol treatment system utilising a group programme for those who have successfully detoxified.

Naufar is Qatar’s national substance use disorder center for treatment, prevention, professional education and research. Naufar was established in 2017 by Emiri Decree, that recognized that addiction is a health issue. Naufar treats over 1000 patients and their families each year. Our services are evidence-based and culturally- adapted to the GCC. Our facilities include over 120 beds (in-patient treatment, residential rehabilitation) and extensive out-patient treatment and recovery interventions.  

Naufar is expanding and is looking to recruit a range of clinical staff with competence in SUD. Clinical staff must be fluent in Arabic and English.

Professional/Academic Qualifications:

An accredited degree in Medicine from a reputable medical education institute.

• Post graduate qualification in Addiction Psychiatry or equivalent.
• Formal training in addiction treatment.
• Valid registration with the relevant professional bodies and licensing authorities.

Experience:

• 15 years of experience, including at least 7 years in positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities.
• Ability to work with key stakeholders, senior management, management team and external partners/advisors through collaboration & teamwork in a non-hierarchical relationship framework.
• Deep knowledge of psychiatry and addiction medicine and other treatment procedures, possible complications that may arise and treatment options.

Prepare and deliver capacity building for PWID focal points in Malawi to promote harm reduction. Deliver tailored trainings, based on developed training package on establishing and implementing OAT programmes for and with people who use drugs.

The consultant will deliver as the main trainer, together with UNODC staff and local experts, following activities:

• Research, revision and comments for Malawi National Drug Control Policy • One three-day harm reduction training in Malawi
• Prepare the teaching materials and adjust it if needed, and will do the pre- and post-training evaluation for the Malawi training

The successful candidate will have a proven background in social work practice and academic qualifications at postgraduate level (normally masters or equivalent). You should be able to work collaboratively, and have some experience of delivering high quality teaching and facilitation of learning within a university and/or in practice settings as a Practice Educator or mentor. 

Candidates should have some practice experience in mental health and also have skills and knowledge in child, family and adult social work. As the Think Ahead programme is a national programme, with students undertaking their practice experiences across England, the post holder will be assigned to cover placement units located across England which requires regular travel with a hybrid-working model of online and on campus teaching (London) with regional recall teaching days.

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Addictions Clinical Support Worker will be to provide drug and alcohol assessments, brief interventions, preparing prescription for printing and recording on FP10 records. Participating in the care planning, provision and evaluation of patients' needs under the supervision of trained staff.

The clinical support worker will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service setting in which they work, alongside peer mentor support workers from other agencies in Addictions and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Addictions Directorate with external agencies and partner organisations.

The clinical support worker will promote their role, through the provision of information and a range of Learning opportunities for the multidisciplinary teams and others across the Addictions Directorate.

To work under the supervision of line management .

As a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, the clinical support worker will work with members of the MDT. The Addictions Clinical Support Worker will support service users to engage in structured treatment and will complete triage & assessments in a timely manner (e.g. liaising with the Alcohol Care Team at West Middlesex Hospital when referring patients to ARC Hounslow.)

Main duties of the job

• The post holder will take a predominant role in providing duty and full comprehensive assessments to clients who are referred or present to the service.
• To contribute in reviewing and processing all referrals presented to the ARC team via emails or self-referral.
• To be able to assess and triage drug-using clients discharged from hospital , applying the precepts of harm minimisation and provide support to the clinical team in bridging treatment gaps in the community.
• To use agreed and established Outcome Monitoring Tools (e.g. TOPS, CRFs etc.) and any other relevant quality measures.
• To use motivational interviewing, relapse management and other evidence-based interventions.
• To ensure full risk assessment and risk management is delivered effectively, under supervision.
• To ensure the highest quality of service is delivered by following local and national quality and performance standards, guidance, protocols, procedures and practice guidelines.
• To ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, including the Serious Incident policy.
• To prepare, print and log prescriptions for the team under the supervision under supervision of the clinical team.

Naufar is Qatar’s national substance use disorder center for treatment, prevention, professional education and research. Naufar was established in 2017 by Emiri Decree, that recognized that addiction is a health issue. Naufar treats over 1000 patients and their families each year. Our services are evidence-based and culturally- adapted to the GCC. Our facilities include over 120 beds (in-patient treatment, residential rehabilitation) and extensive out-patient treatment and recovery interventions.  

Naufar is expanding and is looking to recruit a range of clinical staff with competence in SUD. Clinical staff must be fluent in Arabic and English. 

About the job

To assess required clinical knowledge, skills and related educational needs, planning appropriate education based on the needs assessment, implementation and evaluation of said educational programs, contributing to the development of an organisation- wide learning management system.

Clinical Education

• Development of strategic clinical education plan, new hire education assessment, required education at time of on boarding, annual competency requirements and implementation of plan to meet these requirements, monthly education sessions based on new trends, needs assessments, implementation of new programs etc.
• Ensure formal education presentations as appropriate.
• Facilitate educational presentations from content experts (both Naufar and outside experts).

The journal Prevention Science seeks to fill a new position for a Health Equity Associate Editor. This 3-year position was developed following the recommendations of the of the Society for Prevention Research (SPR) Health Equity Implementation Task Force (see Boyd et al., 2022) for additional details on health equity). The ideal candidate for the Health Equity Associate Editor is a senior or mid-career prevention scientist who has a strong expertise and interest in contributing to the scientific literature related to health equity in relation to prevention science. This person will join the journal’s existing editorial team and take on leadership for the following roles and primary responsibilities:

• Help the editor-in-chief revise existing Prevention Science policies, procedures, and practices to integrate health equity throughout the journal and its review processes.
• Develop trainings (e.g., webinars, sessions at the annual Society for Prevention Research conference) about health equity for other Associate Editors, reviewers, and potential authors.
• Help set the vision and a framework for health equity for the journal and contribute to data collection and assessment efforts that are appropriate and adequate to inform progress toward implementing SPR’s health equity goals (see Boyd et al., 2022).
• Advise on the reviewer pool and editorial board members with regard to expertise in health equity and representativeness.
• Identify gaps and areas of need for training of authors and reviewers, and evidence-based approaches for training.
• Provide feedback to reviewers and other Associate Editors on how to best incorporate health equity into particular manuscripts.
• Manage the review of manuscripts related to health equity for the journal.
• Attend the annual associate editors board meeting at the SPR conference to provide feedback on the journal’s process to date and recommendations for improvement.

Additional details of the role would be finalized in conjunction with editor-in-chief, Catherine Bradshaw, as the role is officially created. It is anticipated that the first year of this role would be associated with an increased workload as the procedures, policies, and trainings are developed, and then reduced in Years 2 and 3 when procedures become more integrated into routine practice. Suffolk County, New York, where Stony Brook University is situated, is currently facing a growing opioid epidemic. This, in addition to the other substance Use Disorders, has led to the need for a Director of Addiction Psychiatry. Stony Brook University Hospital, as well as community hospitals that are part of Stony Brook Medicine that operate NYS licensed SUD inpatient and outpatient programs, will require a coordinated effort to help address the county-wide problem.

The Director will be tasked with providing the clinical, educational and research programs for substances of abuse and coordinate efforts between hospitals and clinics. The Director will work with the Hospitals and the School of Medicine to provide comprehensive services across the spectrum. The Director will routinely collaborate with internal and external stakeholders when developing programs and moving the community toward a prevention model. The Director will be expected to recruit and retain junior and mid-level clinicians and scientists, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff at affiliated institutions.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Public Health Advisor, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

• Coordinating work across Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on behavioral health regulations, financing, and parity.
• Performing work that involves using knowledge of behavioral health regulations and financing, and parity and knowledge of related subject matters in the planning, organizing, promoting, and coordinating efforts across SAMHSA to develop new and/or more effective approaches to the delivery of substance use and mental health screening, assessment, treatment and recovery services.
• Serving as a liaison between program staff and National Mental Health and Substance Use Policy Laboratory (NMHSUPL) leadership and serving as a point of contact for intra-agency, federal interagency and external communication on a variety of behavorial health issues.
• Developing public-facing resources such as memos, white papers, issue briefs, journal articles, fact sheets and toolkits, as well as briefings and talking points for leadership.
• Participating in interagency task forces and workgroups and facilitating meetings with external partners and stakeholders.
• Preparing draft policy responses and related guidance resulting from inquiries from Congressional offices, private sector representatives, grantees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Maintaining an awareness of policy and guidance provided by senior leadership and offers recommendations about respective policies, procedures, programs, and activities as required.

Purpose

Zimbabwe has a fragile health system and experiences both natural and man-made disasters including disease outbreaks and extreme weather phenomena that severely disrupt the delivery of essential health services. The National Health Strategy also identifies key issues affecting adolescents and youth’s health and well-being which include a high Adolescent Birth Rate (ABR) of 108 live births per 1000 women aged 15-19 years against a national target of 100 by 2022, and a regional average of 101 live births per 1000 women aged 15-19, high rates of adolescent pregnancies, maternal morbidity and mortality, early marriage, sexual and gender-based violence, new STIs/ HIV infections, high unmet need for family planning, drug, and substance use, and poor mental health. For adolescents, especially girls, these negative outcomes also result in school dropouts, thus preventing them from realizing their potential in life and productively contributing to national development.

Background and Justification

The World Health Organization (WHO) released SRH self-care guidelines in 2019 and Zimbabwe has not yet adapted and contextualised these. The concept of SRH self-care focuses on self-awareness, self-testing, and self-management. Evidence has shown that in resource-constrained settings with limited or disrupted adolescent and youth service coverage and access, SRH self-care plays a critical role in improving access to critical SRHR services. In a policy-restrictive environment, Self-care is a game changer in terms of adolescents' and young people’s access to and utilization of friendly services and can be a means to reduce health system costs by shifting tasks to users and caregivers and by shifting care outside of formal healthcare facilities.   In Zimbabwe, Self-care will also build upon existing movements and paradigm shifts, such as community-led response initiatives, which are powerful strategies currently supporting health systems. Against this background, we plan to develop the self-care guidelines in Zimbabwe in line with the latest WHO recommendations.

Purpose

• To develop guidelines on Self -Care interventions for SRHR in Zimbabwe in line with the latest WHO recommendations

Tasks

The consultant under the guidance of WHO technical staff will support and/or undertake the following tasks:

1. Conduct an inception meeting with the TWG for adolescents.
2. Develop national guidelines for self-care interventions for SRHR.
3. Conduct a stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives of professional associations, NGOs, Adolescents and other partners working in SRHR to present the draft national guidelines on Self-care.
4. Incorporate comments for finalization
5. Conduct a validation meeting

The Fellow will develop their existing skills base in either/both quantitative and qualitative methods including documentary analysis as needed on specific projects; and further build their public health knowledge and experience of study management. Depending on the project allocation, duties may involve:

• Primary data collection and analysis (interview, focus group or observational data, surveys)
