On Thursday 22nd of July 2021 it was an honour to welcome attendees to the formal launch of ISSUP South Africa, held during the ADDICTION 2021 Virtual Conference.
Livia Edegger, ISSUP Deputy Director, opened the event with an overview of ISSUP Global and its work representing international and national communities of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery support professionals. This included a summary of ISSUP knowledge systems, events, and opportunities for training and networking.
This was followed by a presentation by Michael Brobbey, ISSUP Regional Coordinator for Africa, that introduced attendees to the development of ISSUP National Chapters in Africa and future plans to expand the network into more countries across the continent.
An introduction to the vision and mission of ISSUP South Africa National Chapter was then given by Mr Roger Weimann, President, ISSUP South Africa. Closing remarks promoted broad participation in the work of the Chapter to strengthen the voice of the prevention, treatment and recovery support community across South Africa.
With around 100 people in attendance, the event was a great success.
