Dear editor,
Cannabis use has been variously implicated in several medical conditions although the nature of the association is contested. The presence of psychoactive substances has been implicated in cardiovascular diseases (1). The potent chemical in cannabis, delta-9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is psychoactive and is implicated in medical conditions (2). Recent studies have reported a steady increase in THC potency in cannabis (3). In Ireland, Arnold (4) reported a significant increase in the potency of locally cultivated herbal cannabis seized by the police with some seizures containing up to 16% THC and very low levels of cannabidiol.
