The Matilda Centre provides a world-first synergy of leading prevention, early intervention and treatment research and translation programs in substance use and mental disorders. The Matilda Centre undertakes research and brings together researchers currently working across disorder silos (addiction, depression, suicide, anxiety, exercise physiology, dietetics, chronic disease) to share skills, synergise data, and harness new technologies to develop and trial innovative prevention and early intervention programs for substance use and mental disorders.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is looking for a Research Assistant to join the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use. The Research Assistant will work within the Prevention Team, which focuses on preventing the development of substance use and mental health problems among young people. The Research Assistant will contribute to the Positive Choices project, which aims to equip young people, their parents, and teachers with evidence-based information and response strategies to prevent drug and alcohol-related harm.

Reporting into the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, this is a fixed-term full-time position (35 hours per week) based at our Matilda Centre in Camperdown.

Some of the key responsibilities and activities will include:

  • updating and maintaining online information and assisting with the development of additional prevention resources

  • conducting literature reviews and scoping of existing resources

  • liaising with web developers, managing enquiries, and maintaining communication with teachers, schools, and other subscribers

  • assisting with the design and implementation of studies to evaluate the impact and reach of Positive Choices.
