This 2-year Research Fellow position is to support a mid-career researcher with interest and experience in experimental studies (i.e. experienced post-doc/research fellow) to develop their research credentials in studies of substance use and associated problems, especially of heroin/opioid overdose and risk of overdose death. Working directly with Professor Strang and colleagues, the Research Fellow will be responsible for finalising the development of human experimental studies of the acute effects of opioids, characteristics of opioid overdose and its reversal, and exploration of wearable technology.

The Research Fellow will also drive the development of the ethics and regulatory approvals as well as coordinating and conducting the experimental investigations, both within the purpose-built Clinical Research facility and also in community settings.

The scope of research will include liaison and consultation with drug user groups and also family groups. In this post, the appointee can expect to become an increasingly influential research academic contributing to study of opioids (or other drugs) and to the evolution of addictions science and public policy in this area.
