Re-launching the CHILD Implementation Grants by UNODC presents a significant opportunity to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to deliver critical services to children and young adolescents at risk of drug use. This initiative is a moral imperative and a strategic investment in future generations.

The role of a robust substance abuse data strategy is central to this effort. Accurate, comprehensive data on drug use among young populations allows for targeted interventions, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed. Such data also enable monitoring trends and interventions’ effectiveness over time, helping to refine and improve strategies continually.

Moreover, the demand for and use of substance abuse data is crucial in mobilizing support from stakeholders, including governments, donors, and the public. By demonstrating evidence-based outcomes, UNODC can advocate for sustained funding and policy support, reinforcing the long-term impact of the CHILD Implementation Grants.

Investing in the re-launch of these grants addresses the immediate needs of at-risk children and adolescents and builds a foundation for healthier, more resilient communities. The strategic use of substance abuse data will enhance the effectiveness of these efforts, making it a worthwhile endeavor for UNODC to pursue.
