Collaborating with the Drug Advisory Programme (DAP) of the Colombo Plan –Chilean Office and the University of California San Diego, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) assisted the Albanian and Serbian Government with the organization of the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) walkthrough training workshops.

Supporting the dissemination of UTC basic series, groups of national academic experts and service providers had a chance to be presented  with cutting edge science and expertise on the inclusive approach to treatment of drug use disorders starting from November 2019 to October 2020. Evaluation of the training process showcased increase in the knowledge of participants presented by the comparative analysis of pre and post test results of each course of the UTC basis series. This capacity development initiative was locally supported by Medical Universities as well as the Ministry of Health.

Feedback from participants was positive throughout, with one trainee stating: “Your professional preparation, the way of holding the training, the interaction with the group as well as touching on the topics during the module has been a fantastic experience for me. I hope that even after completing this module we will continue the cooperation in the field of addiction by organizing conferences, trainings and presentations throughout the region.”
