ISSUP Bahamas held a one-day workshop on 25 August 2023 at the Police Training College in Freeport, Grand Bahama. The workshop aimed to facilitate a collaboration platform for diverse stakeholders to explore the multi-dimensional aspects of substance use challenges and develop effective strategies to address them.
The event commenced with an opening address by Senator Hon Kirkland Russell, Deputy Director of Urban Renewal for the Northern Bahamas.
The workshop attracted a diverse audience of approximately 50 participants representing various government and corporate entities and covered a wide range of topics including risk and protective factors, the science of addiction, classification of substances and working with families.
At the end of the workshop, the feedback was overwhelming positive and participants appreciated the diverse perspectives offered and insights gained. By addressing the multi-faceted nature of substance-related challenges, the workshop undoubtedly played a crucial role in advancing the collective efforts to combat substance use disorder in the Bahamas.
